Booming start to the 2019 season!

The Cassels Racing team is off to a great start of this 2019 season with the travels to Orlando and Daytona, Florida. The team spent a couple days at Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida to welcome in the new year before the first race of the season in Daytona.

The first race celebrating IMSA's 50 year anniversary was our Prototype Challenge race in Daytona. The Performance Tech crew worked hard in the brief off season preparing the #75 Ligier LMP3 car for a new format of racing in 2019. This year the smaller prototype lites cars are not part of the format as the series will strictly be LMP3 machines. Additionally, both Daytona and the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park will now be 3-hour races with a mandatory co-driver.

Cameron and his co-driver for 2019, James French, worked closely with the Performance Tech crew to continue to improve the car for the race. Although we seemed to struggle with straight-line speed, James qualified the car in P7 in the rain.

After starting the race in P7, James made a few great overtakes and handed the car over to Cameron who at one point in the race was running as high as P3. After the final stop, and driver change, James went back out and held on to a great P5 finish. Although we did not make it onto the podium, it was a fantastic points day in an incredibly stout field.

Throughout the weekend Cameron also did double duty while he drove the Performance Tech/Centinel Spine #38 LMP2 car in the WeatherTech series as they prepared for the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in a couple of weeks. This race will be Cameron's first time competing in WeatherTech and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

On the kart racing side, all of the kids and even Cameron are preparing for the first kart race of 2019 in the Challenge of the Americas in Fontana, California on February 9+10 at CalSpeed Raceway. Cameron will be racing in the Senior Master Rok class for the race weekend. A sibling rivalry will continue from last season with Erin and Kyle racing in the Junior Rok class. Ryan will be racing in Mini Rok and Sydney will be completing her first Rok race in Micro.
