Western Canadian Karting Championship comes to a close

The EsTeam Tuning and Coaching and Cassels Racing team finishes the Western Canadian Karting Championship this past weekend at EDKRA in Warburg, Alberta.

Cameron was on pace in the Masters class from practice to race day. The Master had successful starts and close racing with the Masters class. An average of P3 finishes in the Heats on Saturday put Cameron in a P3 spot for the Sunday pre-final and final. In the pre-final race, Cameron had a spin due to contact that caused him to finish last. In the final race of the weekend and series, Cameron fought his way back to the front in the start and laps to follow. He was fighting for the lead when a mechanical failure in Corner 5, left him stranded of the win. Overall, Cameron Cassels finished 2nd in the Western Canadian Karting Championship.

With both Erin and Kyle running in the highly competitive Senior Rotax field, it made for some great sibling rivalry from both Senior drivers. Kyle had impressive pace to the quick Seniors and earned an average P6 starting spot from Saturday's Heats for the Sunday race. Erin worked on improving her pace throughout the Heats and earned an average P7 starting position for Sunday's race. With the two drivers going into Sunday, it was only 2 points between them and it could be anybody's fight. In the pre-final Kyle finished P5 with Erin finishing P6. For the final race, both drivers pushed hard and produced excellent lap times. Kyle had an exciting battle with a local driver and finished P6 with Erin finishing P7 for the weekend. When it was all said and done from the weekend, Kyle came out 1 point ahead of Erin in the championship.

Ryan ran close times with the two Mini Max leaders throughout Friday's practice. With each session, his personal best lap times were improving. In Saturday's Heats, Ryan averaged a P3 finish to qualify for Sunday's racing. Ryan had a thrilling battle with another driver in the pre-final and ended up just short of 3rd place. For the final race of the weekend on Sunday, Ryan had a good start and came out in P3, until 4 laps to go and dropping to P4. The Mini Max driver finished 3rd in the Western Canadian Karting Championship.

The defending champion of the Micro Max class, Sydney Cassels fought hard all weekend and was on pace with the other drivers. Sydney qualified 2nd on Saturday morning and finished P2 in all 3 Heats. She got the P2 spot for Sunday's racing. In Sunday's pre-final Sydney finished P3. For the finals race, Sydney had an excellent start and moved up to P2. With 7 laps remaining in the race, she made an error that caused her to drop to P4. In the last lap in Corner 4, she made the pass to bring her to a P3 podium finish. Sydney Cassels finished P2 in the Western Canadian Karting Championship.

Overall a positive weekend for the EsTeam Tuning and Coaching and Cassels Racing team!
